Halong Bay: Wonder & Mystery
Mysterious, magical, dazzling, divine. Few words can capture the beauty and natural wonder of Halong Bay. The rock formations shoot up out of the calm bay like a scene from a fairy tale with mist and fog swirling below. Thousands of islands dotted around in the calm bay waters, jagged limestone pillars worn away from years of weather and waves crashing against them.
If you get the chance to visit Vietnam, Halong Bay needs to be on your list of places! Many people (us included) book a 2 day tour of Halong Bay in Hanoi or online. Tours include the 2 hour car ride from Hanoi to Halong Bay, a night on a boat in the bay, your meals, and a ride back to Hanoi the following day. If you do a little research on the internet you will find a growing list of boats. It all depends on how much you want to spend, you can spend a lot and have a fabulous, extremely classy boat or do it on the cheap and have a boat that offers the bare necessities. It’s all up to you! Either way you’re guaranteed a good time exploring the bay’s mystical islands.
It’s easy to get lost and feel overwhelmed with the beauty around you, at every turn or new bay area we entered we were floored by the beauty around us. We scrambled through a HUGE limestone cave, explored Halong on our own in kayaks, and finished the day off by diving into the bay off the top of our boat at sunset. There’s even a small village with homes attached to each other floating around, people actually live on the bay! Once night fell, we were once again dazzled at the lights of all the boats lit up around us, dancing across Halong’s mystical waters.
I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves!
