   Hi. I’m interested in teaching abroad next year and heard South Korea is a great place to go. I came across your site and I was wondering if you could give me some more information on your experience. I’m concerned because I don’t know any Korean. Is that a necessity? Also, were you able to find a job once you got there or did you have it set up ahead of time? Any info you could give would be appreciated! Thanks!

   Hi Jackie. You heard right… South Korea is a great place to start teaching!

   You certainly don’t need to know Korean so don’t worry about that. We picked up the basics, but as far as teaching goes our schools urged us not to use Korean even if we did know any!! I would recommend finding a job before you leave… It’s a lot easier that way. There are plenty of private schools hiring all year round, OR, we worked for public schools in the EPIK Programme, hiring to start in August or February. I would highly recommend EPIK because of the support they give you & the better working hours (9-5 mon-fri), but I know teachers who preferred their private schools so depends what you want really.

   http://www.tefl.com/jobs/search.html – TEFL.com always have job postings in Korea, usually in private.

   hello, i am currently teaching in texas, right down the road from where i grew up, outside of living a couple hours away for 3 years at Stephen F Austin state university, and traveling to several states in the union on vacations, i haven’t strayed far from home.. i am 27, single with no kids and so before i settle down i would like to travel and see different places and become more cultured.. teaching abroad seems to be the best option.. from the limited amount of research i have done (~10 hours online) seems that south korea or spain would be the two best places to teach.. have either of you been to spain or have you pretty much stuck to the orient? would love to get a chance to speak with you for some one on one advice.. being a school teacher i am obviously broke lol, so i would need to find a school that would want me bad enough to fly me over and tend to my documents.. do i need to get the tefl certification if i have a bachelor’s degree and a teaching certificate? (and teaching experience) thanks!
