Thailand’s Top 5

Thailand is high on most people’s wish lists to visit… & so it should be! Thailand flights are never too expensive, & landing in Bangkok will open up the whole of the stunning South East Asian peninsula to you. We’re taking a nostalgic look back to the first country we backpacked & our favourite 5 stop-offs. Chiang Mai – Jungle Trekking Chiang Mai is a charming city, set high into the northern highlands of Thailand.... Read More

Christmas in the Philippines

It was our first white Christmas, without any snow, but sand! We jetsetted to Boracay, Philippines for a week of relaxing, boozing, and fun. Boracay is the Koh Phangan (minus the buckets of liquor!) of the Philippines, where foreigner travelers come to party all night long. Boracay’s claim to fame is it’s 4km stretch of white beach. It ranks in many top travel magazines as one of the best beaches in the world. The sand really is SO WHITE and... Read More

Bali’s Top 5

Bali Ha’i may call you, Any night, any day, In your heart, you’ll hear it call you: “Come away…Come away.” Bali Ha’i will whisper In the wind of the sea: “Here am I, your special island! Come to me, come to me!” Bali called to us, like it does to so many…. & we came! We were granted one week to escape Saigon’s motorbike fumes and relax amongst Bali’s peacefully green rice terraces,... Read More

Swimming with Crush

Life on the islands, easy-breezy-beautiful. Even considering the fact that we are currently living in a complete DUMP. The Perhentian Islands are quite possibly the MOST GORGEOUS place on Earth. Just throwing that one out there, but this place is unlike any Thai island we’ve been on. The water clearer, the sand whiter, palms trees bigger, and marine life is out of this world astonishing. I could sit for hours at the bottom of the ocean... Read More

The Perhentian Islands: Slumming in Serenity

Our technologically advanced motorboat allowed us to reach the Perhentians in no time & we were soon stunned by beauty of the islands. After a drop-off at the expensive island the boat pulled into Long beach bay, the backpacker haven of the islands, offering affordable accommodation. A long stretch of golden sand merging with the jungle behind, & water as clear as crystal. I haven’t seen tap water as clear as this stuff!! It was... Read More

Koh Phangan: Pharty-ngan!

Koh Phangan has one thing it’s known for… – The FULL MOON Party. It’s a M_A_S_S_I_V_E night out, so big that it has world-wide acclamation & people actually travel half the globe just for this one night of mayhem. The party is held on the beach at Haad Rai & is attended by 8-10,000 people every month. Unfortunately, or fortunately, Nicky & I could only make a HALF-MOON which is slightly smaller in terms of numbers... Read More

Off-roading in Koh Tao

Our original departure point to reach Koh Tao was Krabi… BUT due to our visa cock-up we had to go via Burma / Myanmar… whatever it’s called!… & then head to Chumphon to catch a boat out to the island. We FINALLY reached Chumphon 15 hours, 2 buses, a boat, a country, a pickup truck & a taxi after leaving Krabi that same morning. We stayed the night at the only open guesthouse, finally shutting our eyes at 1am, ready... Read More

Swimming with SHARKS

We’ve been lazy bums island hopping for the last month enjoying some of the best beaches the world has to offer. It’s getting hard to remember the number of jaw-dropping sunsets we’ve seen, or the number of bays where we snorkeled with vibrantly colored fish amongst beautiful corrals, or all the outrageous  fire-dancing parties on the beach every night. Everything begins to blur together! All of those beaches and ‘wow,... Read More

Arrival on the Andaman

After crossing the border back into Thailand we had a few days stop-off in Bangkok with a necessary shopping trip for essentials, (& to fix our camera that I may have broken on our drunken night out in Siem Reap), then journeyed Southward to begin ‘island hopping’. A 14 hour overnight bus to Krabi, Con air as the ‘bed time’ movie… classic! Swimable islands = pleasant exercise! On arrival we headed straight to... Read More
