Photo Friday: Sunset on the Summit of Everest

Everest at Sunset from Kala Patthar

The mighty giant, Mt. Everest. The goddess mother of the Earth. Chomo Iungma to the Tibetans. Sagarmatha to the Nepalese.

Witnessing its sheer mass, seeing it tower over the peaks surrounding it, lost in the beauty of the sun setting across the mighty Himalayas. This shot was taken from Kala Patthar (18,200 feet/5, 500 meters) which offers trekkers the BEST front seat view of Mt. Everest that most of us will ever get (minus all the crazy people who actually climb it!) The hike up to Kala Patthar takes a couple of hours, and offers those who aren't feeling the altitude & make the hike astonishing views at sunset. Mt. Everest had a fiery glow as the sun set across all of its sister peaks, leaving Everest lit last before it finally vanished under a darkened horizon.
